[PTabbedContent] [PTab=POWER] [attr="class","appcon"]Abilities: Perception alteration[attr="class","appcon"]Explanation of Power: Perception alteration is different from mind control as Casey will tell you. He is unable to control another's mind in the traditional sense. His power is rather more subtle. He is able to alter another's perception of him. For instance, he can give someone the impression that they know him or that they like him, even if they've never met before. His power is more about giving somebody and idea or a feeling than it is actually controlling them. It's usually just first impressions and although he's tried many times, he has never been able to completely alter someone's vision of him on a long term basis. Indeed, he actually has quite a limited control of his gift. He can use it against weak minded people but he's discovered the hard way that in a fight, it's next to useless. The rage from wanting to punch his lights out is apparently stronger than any impression he can try to give that he's actually a nice guy. He also had trouble altering perceptions, whilst he can do it for himself he finds it much more different to alter someones perception about anyone other than himself. Although with practice, he's noticed that he finds it easier to do so. He prefers not to rely on his gift too much aware of it's limitations or maybe, more accurately of his own inexperience of using it. He possesses an athletic build which he makes an effort to maintain by getting regular exercise. Admittedly though, he's more of a runner than a heavy weights lifter. He uses hair gel to keep his short blonde hair standing on end, if he hasn't had the chance to put any on then his fringe will almost inevitably get in his way. He dislikes the feeling of having any facial hair and makes an effort to shave every day. Generally, he takes hygiene quite seriously and his mother's lessons about staying clean and looking tidy really have stuck. Despite the world suddenly taking a turn for the worse, Casey makes an effort to try and look like nothing's up. He dresses normally, usually wearing a jacket, a pair of jeans and some trainers : comfortable, practical clothes. He prefers to go for the "regular guy" kind of look, hoping to fit in and avoid attention as much as possible. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}][PTab=PERSONALITY] [attr="class","appcon"]Likes: Chess, books (especially he classics), animals, home cooking, rock music[attr="class","appcon"]Dislikes: Rap or electric music, people telling him what he to do, soap operas and reality tv-shows, anyone commenting about his cooking, spiders, people with poor personal hygiene [attr="class","appcon"]General Personality: Casey has made a point of not nailing his colors to the mast. He is neither for or against Bolas' new world, preferring to weather it out and make the most of an (admittedly difficult) situation. If he's in trouble, he's not letting it show. His confidence and apparent devil-may-care attitude make him appear to be both charming and in control but also hard to trust. Indeed, you probably should be careful around him, although he makes a point of hiding it, he's as cunning as a fox.Generally polite and well-mannered, in a social environment, Casey is laid back and usually rather charming. He likes nothing more than a drink with friends or a girlfriend. In private at home, he will usually read a book whilst listening to some rock music over his old CD player. His spot is definitely his baby brother, Cody whom he cares for deeply and is very protective of. Casey's a guy who plays his cards close to his chest. Aware that his gift isn't going to be much use in a fight, he uses it to avoid them like the plague. He makes a point of avoiding conflict, preferring to use his wits and charm than his fists. Morally, he can be almost impossible to decipher, whilst he's not too happy that the world got turned upside down by Bolas, he's only too willing to profit from it, although he would never openly help Bolas or any of his minions. He might help the rebels but only from afar, if it's beneficial to him and he'll make sure to cover his tracks afterwards in case of any fallout. Is he a coward? Only he could answer that. He's certainly not about to give up his life for any Tom, Dick or Harry that's for sure and he doesn't pretend to be a hero. He's also not one to take a life. He's much happier watching events play out and profiting from them. Sometimes, though, alone at night, he finds himself wondering if he couldn't put his skills to better use... He was born in an average sized town in North Carolina, his mother was a librarian and his father a reverend. Growing up, he rapidly developed a fondness for chess and enjoyed playing against his younger brother, even if the latter was almost always defeated. He loved his family and was very close to them. Something of a gifted student, he found himself doing well at school and having his fair share of girlfriends. His devil-may-care bordering on bad-boy attitude caused some friction with his parents' more traditionalist views and values. He was very close to Cody despite the age difference and the fact that his parents saw the older of the brothers as a corrupting influence. They would often go for long hikes and explore the surrounding countryside. It was during High School that he began to realize that there might be something a little different about him. He seemed to be able to always make a good impression, he could make his father go back into the house eight times believing that he had left his car keys on the table in the hall... Realizing that he possessed a certain gift, he decided perhaps wisely to keep quiet about it, not mentioning it to anyone, even his own family. Things changed however when one day a panic stricken Cody came running into the house. Fortunately both of their parents were out. His older brother, 17 at the time, managed to calm him down long enough to get a straight forwards answer out of him, the youngest Miller told his brother how he had gotten angry at another kid and had managed to "break his head". Casey realized that his little brother must have powers like him. Fortunately, the young boy in question had only been knocked unconscious and it had been assumed that he had simply passed out from the heat. From that day forth, Casey would protect Cody's secret just as he did his own. It was clear to him however that his little brother was far more powerful than he was, unfortunately, he lacked control of his gift and if he lost his temper or even sometimes simply randomly he would end up sending a powerful psychic blast in the direction of a random person. More often than not, those hit wouldn't remember what had happened and were believed to have simply passed out or fallen over. Casey would occasionally have to step in however and convince them of the fact, using his own gift. When it came to graduation and what do to next with his life, Casey was a little stuck. He figured that he could do great things with his gift, although just what and how wasn't immediately obvious to him. He eventually decided that a career as a lawyer might be well suited for someone capable of giving off the impression that his client was innocent. So, for the next few years, he studied, as always a gifted student. His thoughts would often drift back to his little brother and he made a point of calling and visiting him as much as possible. When the world came crashing down. Casey found himself being strangely not all that bothered. His family survived, although relocation was necessary, they ended up living in San Francisco. Okay, so maybe it wasn't ideal but they were still alive, that was more than many. Casey himself decided to use his cunning and brains to his advantage, heading over to New York. Casey is a survivor and can adapt to pretty much any situation, often coming out on top. Surely, this would be no different. Following the disaster, he is living and operating around Brooklyn, he is a black market trader. If you need something, he can get it for you, for a price of course... Currently, he is working to earn enough money and develop a stable enough life for his little brother to come and live with him. He is weary of another potential cataclysm and believes that he would be better able to protect Cody than his parents. A man of no obvious moral convictions, he is currently taking care to stay away from most things rebel and everything Bolas. Neutrality, in his mind, is the safest place to be in the new world. Although, he's no fool and he's always got an eye open, after all, the reason he quit being a lawyer was because he realized that now, the law might not have quite the same meaning as it did before. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}] [PTab=ROLEPLAY] Casey Miller never had a mentor as far as his gift was concerned. There were no books on the subject that he'd been able to find. He most certainly didn't go to any gifted school that was for sure. He learned to use his ability himself, through trial and error. Discovering his capacities and limits as he went, through trial and error. Sometimes more error than others. Without a doubt, his single biggest blunder was way back in his High School years during a party. He had been chatting up a pretty brunette, Elise, he believed her name was although the years between him and the incident made him unsure. What he did remember was that she had a boyfriend. A big boyfriend. A boyfriend who was on the school football team. At the time, he had been vaguely aware that she was dating somebody and that he was present at the party but in his youthful arrogance, made worse by his recent discovery of his gift, he didn't care too much. Oddly enough, the girl's boyfriend had cared when he'd seen a stranger flirting with his girlfriend. The big guy had come over and asked him just what he thought he was playing at. Casey, to his credit had been bluntly honest. When the girl's boyfriend had become a little violent and had pushed Casey, he had simply smirked, planning on using his gift to get out of the situation. "We're friends." He had told the footballer, trying to place the concept in the larger boy's mind. Impressively, Casey made his way by himself to A.and E. in the local hospital looking for treatment for his broken nose. To this day, he will sometimes stroke the bridge of his nose, recalling the pain. Still, he had learnt his lesson; his powers were completely ineffective on someone already angry enough to punch his lights out... He cast a glance out of the window, the city seemed to stretch on forever into the horizon. So many lights, burning through the night... It was a sight quite different to what he was used to, he had spent so many years in that small North Carolina town and even now, his mind drifted back there stirring fond memories and some less pleasant. God, he'd gotten bored there sometimes! Letting out a yawn, he checked his watch, 10.34 P.M. He had some lectures tomorrow, plus some papers that he still hadn't gotten around to finishing. He should be getting to bed if he wanted to be in good enough shape to get everything done tomorrow. He flicked off the light which sat by his desk and put his pen down. Running his hands through his thick hair, he let out a tired sigh. Bed time... He was about to head to the bathroom to brush his teeth and get ready for bed when the phone suddenly rung. He frowned, who would call him at this time of the night? Actually, there was a number of people who would but only a limited few whom he wouldn't be angry at. For a couple of seconds, he considered ignoring it and letting it ring out. It was tempting and would probably grant him a couple more minutes of slumber, if they didn't call back that was. Oh well, he'd might as well see who it was. If he didn't like it, he could always hang up. Too lazy to get up, he leaned over, picking up the phone from the corner of his desk. "Yes?" He asked not even attempting to hide the exasperation in his voice. "Casey?" Came a trembling voice from the other end. "Oh-" He sat upright in his chair before clearing his throat and with it all hint of annoyance. "Sorry sprout, didn't realize it was you." "I'm sorry... It is kind of late, isn't it?" Cody hesitated for a couple of seconds, he voice trailing off. "I can call again tomorrow if you want." "No. No. I wasn't going to bed any time soon." Casey lied to his brother rubbing his tired eyes. "What are you still doing up baby bro?" "It uh... Happened again." "Oh..." Over the years, Casey had grown used to calls like these. They weren't regular - thank goodness - but he was no longer surprised when he received one. Habit didn't make him any less concerned however and despite the miles separating them, he still felt the need to protect his little brother, although physical distance was making that increasingly difficult. If Cody was calling this late, then it meant that whatever had happened this time was slightly more serious than usual. Hopefully though, not so serious as to require his big brother's intervention. "What happened Cody?" He asked his voice flat and level, hoping to channel some confidence to his little brother. "I-I didn't mean to... I was a little stressed out for this test-" Stressed out? Yes that sounded like his little brother. "I saw into the teacher's mind-" "And?" Casey raised an eyebrow as he waited for the rest of the story. "Huh? Oh, that was it." Casey let out an exasperated sigh. He had been expecting something a little more... Serious? For a moment, he contemplated explaining to his brother (for the eleventh time) what a serious issue was and when to call him. He didn't though, remembering that the teen got lonely in the town and had no one else to turn to. "Sorry..." His brother apologized yet again. "I guess I shouldn't have-" "No!" Casey cut him short. "Is there anything else you wanted to talk about?" "Well..." The older brother smiled to himself as he looked out over the city. He listened to Cody as the 14 year old began spouting out and telling him about everything happening to him. Once the teen started, it was and had always been difficult to get him to shut up. Still, Casey saw it as his duty to listen and in all honesty, it didn't do him any harm, in fact, it warmed his heart somewhat as they told him the stories of the boy's daily high school experiences, there was a certain life and joy about the lad which could only be endearing. He would gradually sacrifice some of his sleeping time to hear his little brother out. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}][/PTabbedContent={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}] |
