Plot and Setting

Our world has never been a peaceful one. The human species has always been plagued by conflict, greed, and war, but they were so caught up in their own problems that they never stopped to think about other threats. Threats disguised as folk tales and legend.

It all began at the Phoenix Academy, a school for gifted children. For hundreds of years gifted people, those with abilities that other humans could not understand, had been living in hiding. They tried to make their own way in a world that would have them burned at the stake for witchcraft and for a while everything went well. Gifted communities began to develop and it seemed as though gifted humans could perhaps live in this world without fear. A gifted government was formed and it made peace with the human governments and all seemed well. But it was not meant to be.

Bolas and his minions came from the realms and a great battle began, one that was not to be won. The academy was destroyed and Chandra Nalaar fell to the destructive dragon that now towered over the injured and dying of the opposing side. The separation between realms and reality was no more. The world as we knew it was torn apart and shifted and Chandra watched helplessly as Bolas curled his hands together, forming some kind of invisible energy between them. As he lifted his hands up higher the ball of energy rose up to his horns. She felt a sort of pull from within her. Like something in her chest was trying to get out and join with that energy Bolas was holding. By the way everyone was leaning toward him, they felt it too.

"Welcome to your new reality."

His hands opened and the energy fell, shattering when it hit the ground and everything went white.

Bolas had split all the barriers between the realms. They all came crashing down onto the earth, not just around the Phoenix academy, but all over the world. The chaos came first. Plants invaded, villages and towns both earthly and otherworldly collided, volcanoes erupted at the same rate that the oceans flooded and night and day were confused with each other. Most people who couldn't make sense of any of it died. Others went into hiding until the world could make up its mind on how it wanted to settle. Then few others took hold of the situation and used it to their advantage. Most of them joined Bolas, the most powerful being left now that the Phoenix had fallen.

But...there's hope. There are still those fighting against Bolas, trying to regain the peace the world almost had and perhaps one day, the Phoenix will rise again.

The world as you know it is no more. When the realms collapsed onto the human realm the land changed to accommodate them. As mana flooded the land chaos ensued. The creatures that now inhabited the same earth as humans destroyed many of the civilizations. There are still several major cities that were able to hold out, but those left are in disrepair and full of Bolas' corrupted henchmen enforcing his 'new order'. After the Phoenix Academy, New York City was hit the hardest, plagued with monsters that annihilated the population there. But as gifted people all over tried to find somewhere safe in their new world of chaos, many of them found themselves in the city. As their numbers increased, the gifted population in the city ran out most of the realm creatures (except for those who were civilized enough to remain).

Now the city, although ravaged by the effects of the green realm collapsing around it, has become a community of sorts for those left after the events caused by Bolas. Humans, the gifted, and creatures alike inhabit the city, but so do the stresses of the new reality created by Bolas. His henchmen patrol the streets and attempt to run the city, trying to stop the growing rebel forces which have made their base in the city while Bolas watches on from his base on the Italian island of Lipari.

Manhattan: Traditionally the richest area in New York, Manhattan is still home to most of the money and power. Bolas' henchmen congregate here and keep their area of the city strictly rebel free. Here you can get picked up just for looking at someone the wrong way, and those who are taken away by the 'police' usually aren't seen again. Those who aren't on Bolas' side definitely tend to avoid Manhattan.
Brooklyn (South Side): Furthest away from the rest of the city and the most heavily effected by the green realms attempted takeover, the south side of Brooklyn is just run down enough that Bolas' men tend to avoid the area. Which makes it the perfect place for rebel forces to grow.
The Surrounding Area: Staten Island was overrun by the green realm and is now basically a forest. Jersey City and the Upper Bay have been partially taken over by blue realm creatures, mostly due to the proximity to the water. In the eastern skies, sparks can be seen in the sky, made by those red realm creatures on the eastern coast above New york. The black and white realm influence is not seen until one ventures further inland, where the make up of the land has been completely altered.

Those who are gifted have powers that come from

[attr="class","appcon"]Red :: Passion, Anger, Speed

Fire is the most common type of power found in this group. But there's so much more to this group. Any kind of abnormal speed will get you into this color range. If you can do a lot of damage in a little time, you belong here. Your audition probably lasted a few seconds. Characters in this group usually have intense emotions and short fuses.

[attr="class","appcon"]Blue: Deceit, Knowledge, Mystery

Contrary to popular belief, those with watery abilities aren't the strongest link here. To get into this group you need to be cunning and tricky. Anything to do with brain power goes in here. Telekinetic? You're in. Can you read minds? Right this way.

[attr="class","appcon"]Green: Nature, Strength, Growth

Nature lovers unite. These earthy powers can get really strong if you're not paying attention. Plants can poison or choke. Maybe you're as strong as a boulder. Whichever it is, you have a place here. Generally these are a calm, gentle people, some are vegetarians, but you don't have to be. You just gotta be one with nature. Characters in this group aren't always peaceful and friendly. Sometimes, they just wanna hit stuff.

[attr="class","appcon"]Black: Decay, Chaos, Corruption

Anything to do with the afterlife goes here. Can you see ghosts? Contact a loved one dead and gone? Maybe scaring the crap out of your roommate with your ability to talk to spiders and all things spooky is more your speed. Creepy and risky is the name of the game in this color. Characters in this group are usually misunderstood and creepy on the outside. Sometimes you just have to get past the exterior to find the real person underneath.

[attr="class","appcon"]White: Protection, Healing, Order

The light and airy style fits this group perfectly. If you can fly you belong here. Don't think these characters are soft. They have as much fight in them as any. Maybe even a little more. Can you use healing as a weapon too? Find out when you run into a healer on the battlefield. Characters in this group usually follow the rules and encourage you to do so as well. They're usually friendly and always willing to help someone.

But my character doesn't fit into any of these colors, or I don't know which color my character fits into. What do I do?
Yes, yes they do. I promise you fit it. Just post your audition and your character will be given a color. You might be mismatched, you might break the color system, but that's the fun in playing with the system.[/PTab={height:500px;}]

[attr="class","appcon"]What is a realm?

All of our powers come from a realm. The realms used to be separated but now they're all crashed together. Powers will be stronger in areas of the world overrun by the realm of the power. Creatures from those realms are also more abundant in these areas and more powerful there as well. If they venture into other areas where their kind of mana is not as rich, they will suffer and perhaps even die.

[attr="class","appcon"]What is a ubiety?

The realm being that manifested inside your character is a ubiety. Ubeities are realm creatures who have died in their physical form and had enough power in life to continue into a second life. In this second life, they can extend their years of living by inhabiting a human who is capable of using mana and also giving them their powers. It might take a while for a character's power to become known, or it might happen right away. Everyone is different. Once the gifted human dies, they and their ubeity both experience a 'final death'.

There are five realms that correspond with the power categories. Now that they have collapsed upon the human realm, chaos has come over the earth.
