[PTabbedContent] [PTab=POWER] [attr="class","appcon"]Abilities: Can absorb human DNA; can alter human DNA, can shapeshift into exact copies of a person down to the molecular level [attr="class","appcon"]Explanation of Power: Ari is in very simple terms, a shapeshifter, and can alter her own form as well as the forms of others. However, it is immensely easier to alter and shift her own form than it is to do with others.Basically, what her power allows her to do is to go down to the most basic level in her body's chemistry, and to alter her own DNA structure in such a way that her genes alter, resulting in a sudden shift in the way her phenotypes are portrayed, thus resulting in a sudden change in appearance and even the complete change of DNA, with little to no pain or discomfort in the process. Ari can alter which genes in her DNA are expressed, by concentrating on certain characteristics and turning them 'on' or 'off', and creating a new image—or in this case, body—for herself. For example, if Ariadne wished to change her facial structure, she would concentrate on a certain profile, and her gift would allow her to alter her own DNA coding to allow her genes and phenotypes to be expressed in a certain way. Another example would be changing her biological sex by altering her DNA to that of a male. Secondly, how she does this is through the help of other people. Ari, through prolonged physical contact, such as a handshake or hug, can acquire another person's genetic information for later use. She stores it for later, much like how one can store the memory of a person's face, and can alter her own DNA based off of theirs. Her mind cannot remember the exact sequence of DNA, as it would simply overload her mind at this point, but she remembers and stores certain characteristics. This basically gives her a filing cabinet of DNA to mimic if she so needs. For example, if she had the need, she could alter her DNA to mimic that of a stranger so long as she has had the time to touch them, and therefore, shapeshift into a perfect replica of that person, down to the last DNA sequence. Or, if she wanted to alter her nose to a different style, she could just think of a differently shaped nose, and her power, according to the directions her body sends out, would select a nose from the different sequences of DNA she has recored. Thirdly, her power allows her to alter DNA sequences of other people, allowing her to 'shapeshift' their form. This is not so easily done as it would be to shift forms for herself, as it is not her own DNA that she is rearranging, however, it is still possible and the process of which is very prolonged and painful. If she were to falter in anyways, form shifting could end up permanent, with disastrous effects. Contact must be maintained and the volunteer must be in a passive, vegetative state for this to happen. There are limitations to her gift, however. Like all gifts, Ari's relies on mana, and depending on what part of her she alters to shift forms, will drain her of certain amounts. On average, Ari can change small parts of her form, such as her nose or height, with very little effort and mana consumption. The more she does, for example, altering her DNA sequence completely and shapeshifting into a perfect replica of someone else, the more mana is used. This does not drain Ari too much, however, it does take her a few seconds to collect her bearings in the new form. Thirdly, changing another person's form takes the most mana and time. Doing so leaves her somewhat drained for some time, and the receiving volunteer undergoes the process very slowly and painfully. Note, the only time mana is consumed is during the shifting process, not in resting states of her original body or other forms. Ari also cannot alter her and others DNA to be that of an animal, only human DNA. She's got a nice looking body, with long shapely legs and a set of full hips. Her waist is slender and her breasts small. Ari's face has a nice, handsome jawline to it and some well shaped cheekbones that give her a gentle, charming look. Her lips are a bit thin, though her bottom lip is a bit fuller than the top. Her nose is nice and long, and she's got a set of fine, dark eyebrows. Her eyes are a rather intense shade of green and are usually smudged with a heavy hand of kohl. Ari's hair is rather thick and wild, and she does her best to keep it out of the way, though it hardly works for the most part.Note: Ari's current occupation forces her to remain in a different form, that of which she names herself 'Adne'. Adne, unlike Ari, is 6'0, and has a long, lithe body. Her skin is a soft, rich brown color, reminiscent to coffee with milk stirred in. She's got long limbs and a strong body, with curves here and there where they're most appreciated by the male gaze. Adne has a pretty, pointed face with full lips, a soft and rounded nose, and nicely shaped eyebrows. Her eyes are a dark brown, almost black. Adne's hair for the most part is kept in long dreads(x), though at times, she lets her hair natural and in thick, kinky curls (x). (Adne Playby) [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}][PTab=PERSONALITY] [attr="class","appcon"]Likes: Coffee, tea, the scent of vanilla, comfy clothing, long naps, science,—genetics, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals in particular—,food (literally anything), people, travelling, teaching, light drinking, smoking, night time, small animals, theatre, and helping people. [attr="class","appcon"]Dislikes: Soft drinks, milk, tight and formal clothing, authority figures, bright light, people who tap their pencil, staying in one spot too long, teen romance novels, the heat, casual drug use and heavy drinking, and overly organized people. [attr="class","appcon"]General Personality: Ariadne overall, is a rather happy person. She's usually in a happy, relaxed mood. Of course, small things do bother her. She can't stand the nervous habits of people or those who try to assert authority over her when it's not their place, but besides that small quirk, is generally very easy to be around. Her relaxing and positive nature is often infectious, and it's hard to be in a bad mood around her. She's quite friendly, and does enjoy talking with people, over anything, really. Overall, hardly much bothers her, and many find her to be an enjoyable person to keep company with. She loves helping people. She likes to refer to herself as a 'giver, not a taker' in a joking manner, but it's true. Ari is a very kind, sympathetic, understanding, and compassionate woman, and finds the time to help whoever with whatever. She just likes making people happy and seeing the happiness brighten up their face. Sometimes, it's in the smallest of ways, whether it be helping someone find their keys, or being that one person to continue listening intently to a person speaking in a group so as not to discourage them in the presence of others. Or it's just noticing the little things that make a difference. Other times, it's bigger, like using her resources to help those in need, like changing their form, or using her resources to get a person things. More often than not, it gets her in trouble, but it doesn't quite stop her. Besides being a positive figure, Ari is incredibly quick-witted. She has always been a rather bright individual, and absorbs information much like a sponge. She's a fantastic teacher as well as a learner, and enjoys telling people about her knowledge (mostly in the science field) if they want to know. Besides being book smart, Ari is street smart. After spending a majority of her life on the streets with an assortment of company and by herself, she's learned her ways around the real world and knows how to get what she wants. However, while she's very bright and caring, Ari is somewhat lazy. Something has to motivate her to do something, otherwise, she'll procrastinate and laze about until it's the last minute. She's lazy, and likes spending her free time doing little to nothing, often opting to reading or napping away the hours. As well as being more than a bit lazy at times, she's disorganized. While she can navigate her way through her own personal mess, it usually just ends up with a mess of papers or stuff lingering on every surface in her work space. But she's extremely tidy. She spends plenty of time reorganizing her work to clean up her mess, but more often than not, it gets disorganized rather quickly once again. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}][PTab=HISTORY] [attr="class","appcon"]Family: Felix Burrns: Father (deceased); Valentina Burnns: Mother (deceased); Andrew Smith: Adoptive father [attr="class","appcon"]History: Ari had been born to Felix and Valentina Burnns, and within days, had been very tearfully given off to an orphanage in Oxford ,England. For five years, she spent her life there, not really bothered with the fact that she was an orphan. The kids were always so nice, and Miss Lottie was so kind to her. She never even minded when her friends got adopted. Their smiles made up for it. When she was five however, a very nice man came along. Said his name was Andrew and that he would take good care of her.And so she was adopted. From there on, she had a rather fantastic childhood. Andrew (he always told her to call him that, never daddy or father, as a small child), took very good care of her, made sure she was properly taken care of and given love. Took her out on weekends, made sure to help her out with her gifted, and eventually, IB courses (she was always a smart girl), and to eat all the healthy snacks. Taught her how to walk the streets of England and learning about people from the distance. Even signed her up for gymnastics as a hobby when she was smaller, and eventually theatre as well as she got older. But as she noticed as she got older, Andrew never quite frequented the house besides in the very early morning and after school. By dinner, he was gone and gone for all the night. Of course, she thought nothing of it, even though he would return with heavy pockets of money despite the fact he had a part-time job. Or the fact that he taught her how to use a pocket knife and even a gun to defend herself as a child, despite the latter being extremely illegal. Didn't think a thing of the men that came over almost every day, talking about shipments and making sure that their customers paid off their debts. But they were nice too, and they often helped take care of her as well, sometimes giving her drives to and fro if she needed. By the time she turned sixteen however, she began to clue it together. That and the obvious junkie had approached her house after tracking her adoptive father down, asking if she had boomers to sell, and if she had any cash. Ari had approached the man, and made it very clear she hadn't appreciated being lied to for nearly eleven years, and that she didn't plan to stay in his household if he chose to keep on with the lifestyle. Andrew, he had always been a fair, rather relaxed man, told her that she could move out if she wished, but that he still wished to support her with his funds, from his actual job and not the money he made off of drugs if she wished. She agreed, and by the time she was sixteen, had moved out of her father's home, and into her own little flat that Andrew helped her pay for. It was, as she found within several months, how difficult it was to live on her own. As she put it, when Andrew called to check up on her, "—oh my god, being an adult, is fackin' hard." At one point, when she had been living alone, was when she discovered her powers. It had happened rather casually. In her sleep, one night, she had changed, and had woken up in a different body. She woke up to a blonde-haired, rather ditzy eyed face, and if it hadn't been for her very solid walls and doors, her scream would've been heard up and down the street. But to be fair, Ari had always been a rather sturdy girl, having handled shocks like that before in equal comparison. She found, that if she concentrated hard enough, she could change back to what she originally looked like after a few minutes of concentration. Then she got curious. So she lived on for the next few years, going about her life and learning about herself and the world around her. She never slacked off in her studies, passing her rigorous courses with stellar marks. She rather liked science growing up, and found that as she learned more, the easier it was to use her gift. She understood it well enough, as she found genetics in particular quite interesting. Even reached the conclusion that she had to touch someone to turn into them, and if she wanted to get a certain feature, she had to have touched someone before to get it. And it was a rather easy gift to control, so it was never a matter of having to hide it, rather, merely learn and experience and grow. And so, life went on. She applied to Oxford, and was readily accepted, and began her work in the science field. For a little while, she spent time on chemistry before switching over to minoring in genetics and majoring in pharmaceuticals. Andrew liked to joke that like father, like daughter, she took had an affinity with drugs, but only the legal kind. His words were somewhat ironic. Ari lived the college experience at Oxford. Studied hard, met people and made fast friends (Sebastian DaLek being her best friend, even to this day), and spent her free nights when she wasn't studying, partying and drinking. And it was there, she was introduced to the world her father worked in. It was the best decision she made, and also the worst. Accepting that needle. It really was like what they all said. It only took one try. She claimed it was nothing. That it was just 'casual heroine usage'. Of course, three weeks in, when Sebastian found her curled up in the bathroom, sobbing and trembling in sweat and vomit stained clothes. Heroine, as she put it, had become the girlfriend she always wanted. The next few weeks, months, and eventually years, were hell. She got better, never really quite over the addiction. But better enough that she wouldn't touch it again. Still loved it, but couldn't touch it. Then Andrew's words became even realer. Ari had always loved helping people. Even started working at a local drug-store as a pharmacist. Of course, as medicine and drugs reached their expiration date or close to it, they were ultimately discarded. A waste of money, really…What could be used to help people who actually needed it, they couldn't get it. And Ari had always been in charge of disposing it. So instead of throwing it out, when it was only weeks from expiration date, she had casually mentioned it to a rather poor off bloke who struggled to pay for his prescriptions. That she knew where to find it without paying out the arse. 'You're a legal drug dealer' had never become realer. She graduated soon, and continued her work, day and night. It made her happy. Of course, in the end, the police always found out about drug users and their dealers. And even though it wasn't cocaine, it was still illegal enough to land her in jail. She had been fortunate enough to not get caught, but the threat was still there, and it was reason enough. And it gave her reason enough to leave. She was never one to stay in a place too long. And America sounded pretty good at that point. And she had her visa. So she packed her things, quit her job, and disposed of the evidence. It was time to stop, to make a clean slate for herself. Besides…She always liked teaching, besides pharmaceuticals. And she was qualified enough. Word of gifted schools, such as the one in New Jersey had always been an option to go to, and a good one at that. People of her own kind, all in one area. It'd be a good experience for her. After teaching at Phoenix until Bolas struck, Ari began to work along with the rebels as a spy. Her gift gave her the perfect opportunity, so why not? All it would involve would be her changing every night into something and into someone that would get her the money she needed and the information she wanted that would help her win against Bolas and his forces. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}] [PTab=ROLEPLAY] It was just a job, she told herself. Just work. And it had to be done. Who else would go out and fight? Sure, there were the rebels. But there was more to winning a war and winning back a world than shooting a gun. Ari decided to go about it a different way. Ari decided to work at Temptation under the face and name of Adne Smith. She knew that many of Bolas's men went there, getting their fill of drugs and alcohol and women and men who readily sat in their laps for money. Who was to say she couldn't do the same and get something better? Information that she could use to her advantage would be better than any drink, any wallet full of cash. But only a little bit. She was sitting in the lap of an older, middle aged man. She would've supposed he was handsome, but the dark, pulsing red light of the room made it hard to tell. But under her soft, long fingered hand, she could feel the sharpness of his jaw and in the other, the hardness of his chest. Her lips, painted in dark red lipstick, hovered over his lips, his cheeks, his chin. She whispered soft words with heavy lidded eyes, dark with a smoldering light that had her patron trembling and near writhing underneath her. She asked about Bolas, and it didn't take much more than a slowly wandering hand that lingered and dipped down to rest against his abdomen and a kiss to the neck to get what she wanted. Hardly new information, though she was told a hint about his current plans. Just a puzzle piece for her amusement. Adne smiled, giving him another kiss to the neck before shifting off his lap, reaching over and finding some chilled wine for him to drink. She was hardly done with this one. She figured by the time the bottle was halfway empty, he'd be telling her everything she wanted. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}][/PTabbedContent={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}] |
