A high title held only by one goblin out of the hundreds in a town, warren, or whatever else they called their loose coalition. A title for only the most intimidating and brutal, or sometimes just the most opportunistic. Being a lord meant being a leader, and leading goblins is bound to end badly. Goblins value strength, and will strike at weakness. In Krewtad's warren it was usually whoever offed the previous Lord who got the honor next. The logic was that if the last guy was the strongest, he'd still be around. Eventually they figured it would bring out the strongest (and therefore the most able to lead.) Sometimes there would be stretches of new Lords at least once a week, and sometimes years would pass with just one. most assassinations happen in the first two weeks, and taper off as the leader begins to be feared. So what did that have to do with Krewtad? Well he was on his way to two years as reigning Lord after choking the old one just minutes after they cracked the skull of their predecessor with a crude club. Times were good. Krewtad had four meals a day minimum, oversaw the demise of a lesser dragon that they shared the mountain with (mostly thanks to a nearly inexhaustible source of infantry, and must have had at least thirty children. Yes, times were good. At least until the realms collided and his guards' captain took the opportunity to push him down off of a cliff. Krewtad survived the fall with his life (and just as importantly his crown) intact, but his pride and ribs were bruised. He knew that there was some other Lord now and that he'd never get through the crowds to seize the title back. In a surprising turn, he left that mountain behind. Blaming his ousting (well in his eyes it was only partial. he was still the Lord because he wasn't dead) on the confusion Bolas caused, Krewtad briefly considered joining the rebels. However, fear is just as powerful a motivator as revenge or the opportunity to seize power. Krewtad looked to Bolas to survive the...delicate predicament he found himself in. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}] [PTab=ROLEPLAY] Does Intense jealousy of those more fortunate make you a bad person? No, but having nicer, shinier things than Krewtad does. How dare this common rabble keep anything that Lord Krewtad wants from him? He was patrolling manhattan with his group of soldiers when he saw it. A gaudy fake diamond ring gracing the finger of a woman. She was maybe thirty in goblin years, forty five in the unfortunately standard human years. Of course, Krewtad found humans difficult to tell apart and even harder to identify them. The goblin strolled towards her with a simple phrase. "I'm confiscating that ring." A crooked finger aimed at the woman's decorated digit as Krewtad punctuated the demand with a snarling "Now." The cronies stood a decent ways off to witness what was no doubt going to be one of their brave leader's finest moments. The woman's face showed a great deal of annoyance, but not quite anger. "Piss off." She uttered with a glare What was this commoner doing?! Doesn't she know to bow to the demands of her betters? It seemed she had to learn the hard way. Krewtad clutched the handle of his jagged blade. A long dagger by human standards, but more of a sword in the hands of goblins. "You! You think this is a joke?" The loose folds of Krewtad's face arranged into a look of disbelief and disgust before he let out a battlecry as he charged. It was a rough, high pitched yell. Loud enough to surprise anyone unfamiliar with goblins. And all the woman did was laugh! She thought it funny that a goblin lord was attacking! The reason became clear when Krewtad drew closer. The woman put up a barrier of some sort that the goblin ran nose first into just inches from the hand that wore the ring he wanted so desperately. A slow trickle of black blood dripped from the large, bumpy nose as he swung his knife-sword at the woman ing for it to be deflected each time. Several minutes passed in this manner before Krewtad spoke again in gasping breaths. "You are.." Haaahhh "spared." Krewtad turned and walked away, spouting what he would do if he saw her again. Of course, he would only maybe remember the ring. The woman's face was already lost. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}][/PTabbedContent={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}] |
