[PTabbedContent] [PTab=POWER] [attr="class","appcon"]Abilities: Sharpshooting[attr="class","appcon"]Explanation of Power: Tessa has the ability to imbue her mana supply into objects and persons through touch or at a distance. This ability is theoretically possible with line of sight, however, her fingers have the most practice in providing this link from within her to without, and power flows through them the most readily. The difficulty and amount she needs to expend increases exponentially with the distance, maxing out at about three quarters of a mile, provided she can see her target. Once imbued in a person or other living creature (those with their own mana supply count), the mana does not have immediate effect, instead simply remaining there as a target. The same mana in an inanimate object can act in this passive way. The mana imbued in this way does not penetrate objects, it remains on the surface of objects, but is otherwise inseparable by and invisible to mundane means, except for a faint line visible only to Tessa. Those with specialized control over mana in general, as opposed to simply utilizing their unique Gift may expunge it with a degree of effort and at the cost of some of their own mana, proportional to the amount she paints them with. When the mana is used to paint an inanimate object, it can, at her discretion be activated, causing the mana to seek instances of her passively painted 'targets', taking the objects with them. The speed at which the object travels depends on the amount of mana she invests into the object, the amount invested into the target, and the size of the object being used as a projectile, although this can range from a pebble to a truck, with enough power. Each point on the surface of a projectile seeks a target at the same time and strength, so rotation can be created through clever patterning of the mana. In simple cases, however, the object will approach the target in an orientation dictated by the location of the mana painted onto the object. If the object is blocked in some way the projectiles will continue to attempt to reach their target in a straight line. In some cases, this can lead to projectiles sliding along low-friction surfaces, breaking through obstacles (depending on the force they have), or simply getting stuck. If the target moves to a new location, they will continue to try to reach the target along the new trajectory. She can designate any number of targets that she can invest mana into, however, objects are attracted to each of those objects, forces acting in many directions at once. Mechanically, the attraction between her mana targets resembles, but is entirely distinct from and does not interact with the electromagnetic force. The force generated is proportional to the product of the two amounts of mana in the objects. However, this effect is not weakened by distance between the objects. This force then acts on the object, creating acceleration in the classical way. When contact between an active projectile and a passive target, whether or not it is on another object or person, the mana is dissipated instantly. The mana otherwise decays extremely slowly. Finally, Tessa herself, again by contact, can choose to reclaim part of the mana she has invested in an object or person, albeit at less than perfect efficiency. It is generally less than half the amount present in the object. Alternatively, she can choose to remove all mana in all objects or persons, at the cost of that mana being lost to her. This effect also happens should she lose consciousness, as she is no longer able to provide the miniscule amount of concentration it takes to maintain the effect. She has been scarred multiple times, miraculously, her face not being one of those locations, but so far, they are only cosmetic, no muscles or tendons were permanently affected, as they were mostly from incidental or collateral damage, rather than, say, an enemy sniper attempting to injure her critically. Her hair, once long, was cropped in the interest of practicality, and her normal day-to-day appearance reflects this as well. She does not dress to stand out, and while on assignment, in fact, her attire is military. She is rarely without a pair of binoculars or a few metal beads in her pocket, and her expression is grim to emotionless. Her posture and carriage speak to experience in moving efficiently. She gets a tattoo for each target she eliminates, although some of them are just tally marks. More complex ones are commissioned for more interesting or dangerous targets. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}][PTab=PERSONALITY] [attr="class","appcon"]Likes: her clarinet, sewing and cooking, clean-cut missions, approval, high places[attr="class","appcon"]Dislikes: guns, waste, parties, hotshots, being blind[attr="class","appcon"]General Personality: The shy girl from the Phoenix academy is no more, although small remnants of her personality remain in the sniper who now bears her name. In the time before the cataclysm, her gift was seen as basically only good for killing, something which had no day to day application. Her potential as a sniper was quickly noticed in the days following the Event, and she was quickly isolated, and trained in the tenants of her new 'profession.' They preyed on her insecurities of being alone and unpraised and unnoticed to gain her loyalty, trained her body and mind to be an ideal soldier for whom the mission is paramount. At first, she balked at the idea of murder, but as her experience in the field grew, she became desensitized. At the same time, her previous psychological and social defects shrunk so that she could suppress most of them, in the service of the mission. The result was effective, instead of her eyes always on the floor, trying to avoid the gaze of others, she now is observant, instead of hesitant, she takes action quickly, leaving the moral decisions to her superiors. If she does have any moral doubts, they are usually quickly suppressed in favor of the approval she will gain by following orders. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}][PTab=HISTORY] [attr="class","appcon"]Family: No living family known, parents and elder sister deceased[attr="class","appcon"]History: After the change in the world, Tessa's school life ended instantly, as an organization unknown to her, in fact, a military branch specializing in Gifted agents, quickly kidnapped her and brought her to a training facility, where after a month of psychological testing and some might say, brainwashing, she agreed to begin training as an operative. Her training was difficult at first, but due to her affinity for attention and favorable reaction to praise, she became an ideal soldier within the acceptable time parameters while the world collapsed elsewhere. She began to see field operations soon after the completion of her training, physical, mental and Gifted, against mundane targets, where her abilities added a new dimension to the combats in which she saw. In particular, the ability to bend projectiles to compensate for cover was effective against those who were unaware. Currently, she is attached to a unit serving as protection for higher ranking officials on special events, as well as taking part in more covert operations to make the city a safer place, a goal she wordlessly agrees with. [/PTab={max-height:200px;min-height:200px;}] [PTab=ROLEPLAY] The target was in sight now, so far, this engagement had been executed and planned well.. Tessa was on the street level for this time, and although this particular shot would be more than a little tricky, with split second timing required, the advantages of it were definite. It was an assassination of a crime lord, as far as she understood, but nothing more needed to be said. It made it easier to know that this was a bad man, but it wouldn't have changed much at this point in her life. Even if some part of the old her rebelled up and asked her a question about how 'right' killing someone she didn't even know was, the main part of her would push it down, eager for the 'well done', that was waiting for her at the end of the day. She belonged someplace now, she had people relying on her, and that meant more to her than the nagging strings of conscience. All she needed was a confirmation at this point, she couldn't even see her target at this point, but that wasn't important. She had faith that the angles and distances she and the planners had gone over would be correct, so she could pull that trigger without any hesitation. The confirmation came, and she focused her aim onto the first target, the wall of the building straight down the street from her. The live grenade, impact sensitive, sped off towards the spot on the wall she had marked, just as she planned. She now had a .1 second window in whcih to change the direction by changing the target, removing the one from the wall, and choosing a point to her right, but far enough down so that it wouldn't come flying back at her. Her electronic timer beeped, and just as the simulations went, the targets changed, the grenade switched trajectory midair, arcing down the street to the right a hundred meters ahead of her. And just like that, her job was done here. A few moments later a muffled boom erupted from the streets, and many distressed people ran in the direction the grenade had came. But that wasn't where Tessa had been standing, and besides that, she wasn't even there any more. It was impressive what could happen, when you changed the rules just a little bit, she thought, as she walked calmly away, a little exhausted from the distance she needed to operate at, but excited at the idea of the debriefing, where she would get the pat on the back that made it all worth it.
