"We called it the Traveler, and its arrival changed us forever."
In the not-too-distant future, the first manned mission to Mars discovers a massive, sentient construct entering its atmosphere. With its help, humans terraform the solar system and achieve feats of technology including sentient machines. This time period becomes known as "the Golden Age."

"But the Traveler had an enemy."
In counterpart to the Traveler is the entity known only as the Darkness, a force for ruin and destruction. In an event that will later be known as the Collapse, the Darkness wipes out all but a few last scraps of humanity. The Traveler sacrifices itself in a last-ditch attempt to fend off the invaders. Now it hangs in unconscious stasis over the Last City, unable to communicate, possibly dying, but still offering protection the only way it can.

"Eyes up, Guardian."
The Traveler's power, its lifeblood, is known as Light. Those who can wield it are known as Guardians. Armed with incredible power and near immortality, the Guardians are the last protectors of humanity. They are a beacon of hope in an otherwise forsaken time, the wall on which their enemies break.

Only now, the Darkness is returning. And with the Traveler dying, it's unknown whether their forces will be enough to stop it this time....
